Arts Education Advocacy

Arts Are Essential Campaign

The Arthur Miller Foundation works closely with the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable (NYC AiER) on the ARTS ARE ESSENTIAL campaign. Our efforts call upon the New York City Mayor, New York City Council, and the New York City Department of Education to ensure that every K-12 public school student has access to quality arts learning by deeming arts education an essential part of every child’s academic experience in the New York City public school system.

AMF also supports the New York State Alliance for Arts Education (NYSAAE), a state-wide non-profit service organization dedicated to ensuring that the arts become an integral part of every person’s education in New York State. While the Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) outlines that the arts are a critical component of a child’s education, New York is one of only 19 states that does not consider the arts a core curriculum subject. Arts education is a foundational component to a well-rounded public school education.

New York State Arts Education Bills

AMF supports New York State Senate Bill S4525 and New York State Assembly Bill A1788, which serve to incorporate arts education (dance, music, theater, and visual arts) into the New York State public school curriculum.

Please show your support to make arts education a core subject in New York State.
